About Us

Advantage Publishing Inc. is a Gainesville, FL based, full service publishing agency. API currently has three publications, HOME: Living in Greater Gainesville, Business in Greater Gainesville and Guide to Greater Gainesville. With these three publications, Advantage Publishing Inc. truly provides the trifecta of live, work and play in the greater Gainesville region. 

HOME is a leading lifestyle publication based in Gainesville dedicated to enhancing the well-being of the community. We value the opportunity not only to educate and entertain, but show what it truly means to live in the greater Gainesville area. First published in October 2007, HOME began as an interior design magazine, and has since expanded.

Business is a monthly publication dedicated to educating and inspiring business leaders. Business magazine is the essential business publication for a growing and thriving community made for all business owners. It provides valuable information that caters to the past, present and future leaders who have and will continue to make the business decisions that build the Gainesville community. We strive to highlight these exceptional individuals.

Guide to Greater Gainesville is an annual, comprehensive and premier relocation guide for our region. The Guide combines award winning photography and compelling articles that capture all of the reasons to call Greater Gainesville your next home. The Guide shares all that you need to learn about the Heart of Florida, including neighborhood and city information, schools and zoning, culture and leisure, sports and fitness, healthcare and much more.

We are an active member in the community serving as a media sponsor and advocate for many of North Central Florida’s Non-Profit organizations such as Tyler’s Hope, Child Advocacy Center, Junior Achievement, Children’s Home Society, Haven Hospice, Boys & Girls Club, Peaceful Paths, the PACE center for Girls, March of Dimes, Ronald McDonald House, Girls Place, Education Foundation, ElderCare, Cade Museum, University of Florida Performing Arts, Hippodrome State Theatre, SW Advocacy Group, LifeSouth and more.

We also host events such as the Taste of Greater Gainesville, Impact Awards and Fierce Awards. Starting in 2009 and going into its 8th year, Taste of Greater Gainesville, is a one-of-a-kind event that features up to 40 restaurants, 300 plus auction items and the Iron Chief competition. Our Impact Awards recognizes those in the community who have motivated, educated, inspired and altogether created a positive impact on the Greater Gainesville community. Our Fierce Awards recognize the talented and transformative women in the business community.  To date, we have raised over $365,000 for our charitable partners: Tyler’s Hope for a Dystonia Cure, PACE Centers for Girls and the Ronald McDonald House of North Central Florida and the Child Advocacy Center of Gainesville. As such, we like to think of ourselves as a for-profit company with a non-profit heart.

Brian Scarborough

Brian Scarborough, CIC, Brian is a third generation owner of Scarborough Insurance, an insurance agency founded by his grandfather in 1961. Brian is a lifelong resident of Gainesville, a graduate of the University of Florida. He currently serves on several local Boards including Tyler’s Hope for a Dystonia Cure,  Peaceful Paths, Alarion Bank Community Council, Council for Economic Outreach and is the chair of the Gainesville Alachua County Airport Authority. He is also  the incoming Vice Chairman of the Florida Association of Insurance Agents.  He is a Leadership Gainesville Graduate (LG 26). He is married to his wife (Erin) and  they have two daughters, Lucy (8) and Leland (5).

Eric Godet

Eric Godet is currently President and CEO of Godet Industries International. Prior to that he joined RTI Biologics in 1994 as an Education and Procurement  Coordinator with the department of Orthopedics in the College of Medicine at the University of Florida. In his 15 years with RTI, Eric was a change agent within  the Operations, Marketing, Distribution, Donor Services and Communications departments. He has held numerous positions during his tenure, Project Manager  of New Products, Manufacturing Manager of Operations, Regional Director of Donor Services, Regional Director of Distribution, Director of New Business  Development, Government Relations and Community Affairs.

Eric earned a bachelor’s degree in Theology and Biology from St. Leo University in Florida in 1985. He then moved to Washington, DC to work for IBM in their  Information Systems Group finance department. Eric moved to Philadelphia to complete a Masters in Laboratory Animal Science degree at Hahnemann  University. Eric worked for Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Institute at their McNeil campus in Pennsylvania in the Drug Safety and Evaluation  Department.

Eric is married to Dr. Yvette Godet, a local dentist. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in July this year. They have two sons, Eric, Jr. and Aaron.

Affectionately referred to as the “Human Cliffs Notes” by many of his clients, John is known for taking massive amounts of research combined with his personal hands-on experience to deliver timely, focused, results-driven programs. For example, to create carefully customized workshops and presentations that reflect the newest research and most current thinking, John reads a minimum of 100 business-related books each year and listens to an additional 30-50 audio books, giving him an incredible depth and breadth of knowledge which to draw from. John has served as “Executive in Residence” for the University of Central Florida’s Technology Incubator; as a Special Advisor to the Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University; as a lead instructor for the University of North Florida’s Executive Education division; on the Board of Directors for the University of Florida’s Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation; as an advisor to the University of Florida’s Leadership Development Institute and as a senior instructor at the Cornell University Leadership Development School. Rick Staab

Rick is the president of InterMed Biomedical Services, Inc., InterMed Nuclear and InterMed Ultrasound Services located in Alachua, Florida. He has been in the  business of medical equipment services since completing his bachelor’s degree in science from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia in 1990. The companies  have offices through the Southeast selling, servicing and training hospitals and clinics on biomedical devices, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine. InterMed  Biomedical Services, InterMed Ultrasound and InterMed Nuc Med were all named among the country’s fastest growing businesses for the past two years by Inc.  magazine and InterMed Biomedical Services was honored in October 2010 as the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce Overall Small Business of the Year.

Mr. Staab was recognized as the National Humanitarian of the Year in his industry by MD Publishing. Rick is also owner and managing partner in a wine bar in  downtown Gainesville named Half Cork’d. Rick and his wife, Michelle, started the non-profit organization, Tyler’s Hope for a Dystonia Cure in 2006, shortly  after their son, Tyler, was diagnosed with dystonia, a neurological movement disorder. Their daughter, Samantha, was diagnosed with the disease a few years  later. Mr. Staab is the president and director of the non-profit which has given over $3 million to fund neurology research to prevent and cure dystonia, while  creating awareness of the disorder. Mr. Staab serves on the board of directors for the University of Florida Foundation, The Children’s Miracle Network, the  Gainesville Leadership Council, the Council for Economic Outreach, chairs the chamber of commerce talent alignment and education committee and is  Chairperson for the University of Florida’s Movement Disorder Center. He is a member of the board of directors for Life South Community Blood Centers, Advantage Publishing, and the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife, Michelle, live in Gainesville with their three children.
